Black Oak Games creates beautiful objects for you to play with and enjoy.

Knot Dice is a set of games and puzzles published by Black Oak Games. The original set is a box of custom dice that form Celtic knot designs, with which you can play a large number of games and puzzles (by numerous designers). Knot Dice, Knot Dice Squared, and Celtic Animals Knot Dice were funded by Kickstarter campaigns that brought together thousands of lovers of Celtic knots and dice to make these fantastic dice.

My name is Matthew O'Malley, and I designed most of the Knot Dice games and puzzles. I have also designed several other games for other publishers, most with my co-designer Ben Rosset, including:

  • The Search for Lost Species and The Search for Planet X (published by Foxtrot Games and Renegade Games)
  • First in Flight (published by Artana Games)
  • Between Two Cities and Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig (published by Stonemaier Games)

Best mini fun around

They are so beautiful. Look and feel like wood. Never get tired of running them through my hands, they are so silky. And the endless patterns you can make. Sadly, at 73, the dots are too small to use as dice without a magnifying glass, but I have so much fun with them. And the colors and animals are gorgeous. I have three sets: blue, purple and green. I highly recommend them. Great value for the money. Awesome customer service too.

For the holidays we ordered several different sets for several different people in our family, ages 9 through 78, and they all loved them. The dice are well made, feel substantive when you are playing with them, and are every bit as fun "in person" as they appear on line. Either fiddling around making patterns by yourself or all our sets combined playing a game together, these are great.
